Spring Fruits & Vegetables

Now that spring has finally sprung, I am starting to think about lightening my cooking for spring. All winter long we stick with hearty, filling meals because that is what we crave when it's cold outside. Now that more fruit and veggies are in season, I can try and lighten things up a bit and cut down on the carbs and fat (hopefully!). This is what is on my grocery list:

Spring Fruits
Cherries
Strawberries
Blueberries
Figs
Raspberries
Currants
Pineapple

Spring Vegetables
Artichokes
Asparagus
Snow Peas
Rhubarb (who knew this was a vegetable!)
Spinach
Fennel
Fiddleheads
Collard Green
Radishes

In the area where I live (Boston) there is an abundance of locations to get great fresh produce. Some are local places only, but others (Whole Foods) can be found nationally.

Where to Buy
(In the Boston Area)
Russo's

There are other places to get fresh fruit and vegetables, no matter where you live. Local farmers markets are a great places to check out, or you could look into farm shares, where you sign up and pay to receive a box of local food items each week.

A website called Local Harvest allows you to find locations where you can purchase local, organic produce in your area via grocery stores, farmers markets, co-ops, etc. This is a great resource if you are unsure of where to find the foods you want.

Does anyone else plan on taking advantage of the spring produce? If so, what are you buying?
