Thanksgiving is a very tradition-driven holiday, particularly when it comes to the food. The majority of the recipes that my grandmother used 20 years ago to cook our Thanksgiving dinner are almost the same ones that her daughter (my aunt) uses today. That being said, there is nothing wrong with changing things up for Thanksgiving and starting a new food tradition.
A great way to experiment with a new Thanksgiving recipe is with a side dish because if not everyone likes it, there are still plenty of other options for them to eat. Keeping that in mind, I wanted to include some recipes that are non-traditional for those of us that are interested in changing things up. The hasselback sweet potatoes recipe from My Recession Kitchen is the one that I will be making for the Thanksgiving lunch at my office next week.
