Room of the Week: Jacqueline Kennedy's White House Bedroom

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was well known for her style and excellent taste, and it reached far beyond the world of fashion. Upon arriving at the White House in 1961, Mrs. Kennedy set about remodeling and revamping the countries most famous home in order to restore it to it's pre-Eisenhower former glory.

Along with the state rooms, Mrs. Kennedy re-did the family quarters in the east wing, including her own personal bedroom. Done with the help of legendary designer Sister Parish, the room is feminine and elegant without being too fussy.

I love the blue accents, particularly the crown canopy and drapes, and the cozy sitting area opposite the bed. For me, a bedroom isn't just a place to sleep, but also a place to get away from it all, and the seating area by the fireplace is perfect for that. For a large room in a formal home, her bedroom looks incredibly welcoming and lived-in. All the photographs and books help to add a much more personalized touch (I wonder what books are stacked at the foot of the bed?).

Have a great weekend everyone!
