You know what they say about hair, everyone girl wants what she can't have. Everyone wants something different: short, long, straight, curly, but these styles stand out for their enduring popularity.
Icon: The Anna Wintour Bob
I know this look was technically made famous by film star Louise Brooks but I think fab Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is the woman that made this look famous. I once read that she has it professionally blown out each morning before heading to her office. If that's true, it just makes me like her even more!
The Next Best Thing
Not everyone can pull off Anna's polished bob, especially if you have a rounder face shape. These great styles from Rose Byrne and Katie Holmes have a similar look that will work for a variety of face shapes.
Icon: The Rachel
At some point, almost every girl has had "The Rachel" haircut. Actually, I think some people still do, and who can blame them. Jennifer Aniston has always had the best hair.
The Next Best Thing
Not everyone is keen on having such a layered, piecey style, but they love the volume that the Rachel cut provides. Rachel McAdams and Selena Gomez have a similar shoulder length cut with tons of great volume, without all the choppy layers.
The Icon: Mia Farrow's Pixie
I love how fresh this pixie cut looks. All you can see is her fantastic bone structure and great big eyes. Mia Farrow seems almost angelic.
The Next Best Thing
The short pixie could not have suited Farrow more, but not all of us are lucky enough to have features like hers. A cut that short can almost be too severe for some people. If you looking to go short, but still want some forgiving fringe, the styles from Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway are a bit more versatile.
Icon: The Farrah Fawcett Feather
In the late 70's, no one could touch Farrah when it came to hair. Every girl wanted their hair big, blond and feathered out to the max.
The Next Best Thing
The feathered look is still popular but, like most things from the 70's, the feathering has been scaled back a bit. Gabrielle Union and Mollie King are doing the Farrah Feathers justice without taking us back in time.
Long before those awful Bump It pieces, there was serious hair teasing and french actress Brigitte Bardot, and just like that, the bombshell look was born.
The Next Best Thing
Bardot's bombshell hair isn't easy to replicate without using some kind of hair piece to provide the extra volume at the crown, but who has time for that? The looks from Sienna Miller and Kate Moss are much easier to pull of with the help of a good teasing comb and lots (and lots!) of hairspray. Perfect for a big night out.
So those are my favorite iconic hairstyles. I would love to hear about your favorites! I love the Marilyn Monroe curl look but can't seem to pull it off without looking like a pin up. Any ideas?
